Mission Servant Week

Mission Servant Week at Calvary is a ten-year tradition of intentional serving in the community.  The week typically runs in June and has a large variety of projects and opportunities for young & old alike.  Calvary members work side by side in the community and throughout the surrounding areas.

Last year’s annual Mission Servant Week took place the fourth week of June. An estimated more than 400 man-hours went into the week as Calvary members reached out into the community and beyond. (See below for the 2010 schedule!)

Volunteers had many options to help, requiring all talent levels. We partnered with Lutheran Social Services by working at some of their properties: building a retaining wall at a senior apartment complex, cleaning & painting a garage for another of their homes, and repairing & painting inside of Lowell House.  One of our new Mission of the Month partners, Hope Christian Academy, was helped out with organization and sorting as well as wall repair and painting. Labels were cut from donated clothing at Corp Care at the end of the week.

Here at Calvary, several people worked on cleaning out the Sunday School Resource Room and classrooms. We hosted a successful blood drive on Monday afternoon and evening. Card writing for shut ins & troops overseas continued throughout the week.  There was crew which made angel costumes and another that baked cookies for the July Fourth hospitality tent.

To end the week’s activities, Saturday included a food sort at Hunger Task Force.
We thank all those who give of their time and talents and contributed to our on-going mission to show God’s love in the community.  Join us this year during the week of June 21st as we continue our tradition of outreach in Christ's name.
